PRN On-Call Staff Advocate

Salary: On call hourly rate, plus additional compensation for on-location services 

Position Overview: 
The purpose of the On-Call Staff Advocate is to ensure that the needs of DARCC Clients are served in a timely, efficient manner. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for answering crisis calls on the 24-hour crisis line. 

  • Responsible for acting as shift leader and being back up to the hotline during shift.  

  • Responsible for answering questions that volunteers may have during assigned shifts. 

  • Responsible for providing hospital accompaniment at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, Texas Health Rockwall, Baylor University Medical Center, and any future hospital(s) where DARCC provides advocacy services for any victim who presents for a SANE exam. 

  • Responsible for completing all required documentation of services provided and hours worked.  

  • Responsible for assisting volunteers with questions and/or concerns during their volunteer shifts. 

  • Responsible for submitting timesheets on a bi-weekly basis. 

  • Responsible for staying in communication with supervisor, attending mandatory meetings, attending monthly check-ins, and participating in being a mentor to upcoming training classes. 

  • Responsible for participating in on-going continued education. 

  • Completion of 40-hour advocacy training. 

 Qualifications:  

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, another field, or comparable life experience. Knowledge of victim impact issues and the criminal justice system preferred.  

  • Ability to effectively communicate with individuals through a variety of mediums. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquires or complaints. 

  • Must demonstrate reasonable proficiency with computers and other electronic devices, as well as agency software needed to fulfill responsibilities. 

  • Ability to maintain a non-judgmental, accepting attitude towards people of any race, color, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, age, appearance, or economic status.  

  • Must believe in, support, and act in accordance with the agency’s mission, strategic goals, policies, and guidelines. 

  • Must be dependable and on time.  

  • Must be able to maintain the confidentiality of all clients. 

  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to the mission of DARCC. 

  • Must be able to empathize. Experience in crisis services and/or working in social work/criminal justice field preferred.  

  • Knowledge of Spanish and oral and written fluency in the language is desirable.  

Job Specifics: 

  • On call PRN, up to approximately 25 hours per week. 

  • Requires evening, weekend, and holiday hours.  

  • Work setting is hybrid remote and on location. 

  • Frequent sitting, standing, and walking. 

  • Lifting of items under 30 pounds.
