  • Internship Overview

    Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC) is committed to engage and educate communities to prevent sexual violence and to support survivors and their loved ones as they heal and thrive. DARCC’s comprehensive program includes counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy for those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. DARCC is also committed to social change through prevention, education and outreach programs to the community. We are looking for talented and passionate Clinical Interns to join our team. Clinical interns are accepted as space permits and are available only to students enrolled in a graduate counseling program.     Responsibilities for Clinical Interns​:

    • Must be able to commit to at least 8 continuous months with DARCC to minimize interruptions in client services

    • Intern at least 16 hours/week, in-office only, which may include some evening hours

    • Must complete DARCC’s Sexual Assault Advocate Training, which is a 40-hour training spanning multiple weeks

    • Must be covered under the insurance of their learning institution and/or provide their own liability insurance

    • Conduct intake and initial assessments of DARCC clients

    • Provide in-person and virtual counseling services to survivors of sexual violence ages 13+

    • Facilitate psychoeducational support groups for primary and/or secondary survivors of sexual violence

    • On a weekly basis, interns will meet for one-on-one supervision as well as engage in Clinical Team meetings for support

    • Expectation to maintain proper documentation and timely upkeep of case files

    • Participate in the organization and execution of outreach, awareness, and prevention events as needed

    • Other opportunities as designated to or suggested by the intern and approved by school and agency supervisor

    Qualifications for Clinical Interns:

    • Must be enrolled in a graduate counseling program.

    • Ability work alongside a diverse group of employees and simultaneously work toward many company initiatives at once.

 Advocacy Internships

  • Internship Overview

    Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC) internships are unpaid. Our internships are designed to provide educational and professional development opportunities, allowing interns to gain insight into their fields of study.

    DARCC is committed to the prevention of sexual violence and compassionately serving those impacted by it. DARCC’s comprehensive program includes counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy for those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. DARCC is also committed to social change through prevention, education and outreach programs to the community.

    The Advocacy Intern will assist in providing 24/7 crisis services to survivors of sexual violence through hotline and hospital advocacy. Advocacy Interns will help with legal advocacy accompaniment and provide administrative support to ensure that the advocacy needs of DARCC clients are met.

    Responsibilities for Advocacy Interns:

    • Complete the 40-hour certified Sexual Assault Advocate Training Program.

    • Answering crisis calls on the 24-hour crisis line.

    • Providing hospital accompaniment at Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, Texas Health Hospital Rockwall, Baylor, and Medical City for any survivor who presented for a SANE exam.

    • Providing law enforcement and judicial accompaniment to survivors requiring assistance.

    • Maintains and updates agency resource guides to meet the needs of survivors and their families.

    • Assists in creating reference materials on various Crime Victim Assistance programs.

    • Complete all required documentation of services provided and hours worked.

    • Assisting with various projects around the office.

    • Serve as a mentor for incoming volunteers and act as a support for on-call volunteers.

    • Must believe in, support, and act in accordance with the agency’s mission statement and strategic goals.

    • Ability to maintain non-judgmental, accepting attitudes towards people of any race, religion, ethnicity, sexuality, age, appearance, or economic status.

    • Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications for Advocacy Interns:

    • Undergraduate or Graduate Student pursuing a degree in a social services related field or comparable life experience.

    • Must demonstrate excellence with computers and other electronic devices and agency software needed to fulfill responsibilities.

    • Ability work alongside a diverse group of employees and simultaneously work toward many company initiatives at once.

  • Internship Overview

    The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC) is committed to preventing sexual violence in North Texas and providing compassionate support to those impacted. The Education Intern will assist the Director of Education in managing Allies to Advocates, DARCC’s campus-based program. This internship provides a hands-on learning opportunity to develop skills in educational outreach, campus program coordination, and student engagement, while contributing to meaningful change on college campuses. 

    Weekly Commitment: 
    20-30  hours, scheduled based on availability, including occasional evening or weekend campus meetings and events as needed. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Support Campus Programming 

    • Work closely with the Director of Education to coordinate and support Allies to Advocates meetings and activities on participating campuses. 

    • Assist with recruiting and orienting new program members, providing guidance to support their involvement and engagement. 

    • Facilitate on-campus Allies to Advocates meetings, helping students organize initiatives, discussions, and events to promote awareness of sexual violence prevention and available resources. 

    • Act as a mentor for student leaders, providing advice and support for peer-led events and discussions. 

    • Educational Material Development 

    • Help develop educational materials, presentations, and social media content to enhance DARCC’s outreach efforts. 

    • Assist in creating and maintaining resources on topics such as sexual violence prevention, healthy relationships, and survivor support. 

    • Event Planning and Execution 

    • Support the planning and execution of awareness and fundraising events on campus, such as Take Back the Night and Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities. 

    • Track attendance, event participation, and outcomes for Allies to Advocates activities, providing regular updates to the Director of Education. 

    • Professional Development 

    • Successfully complete a 40-hour certified Sexual Assault Advocate Training Program, gaining essential knowledge and skills for working with survivors and promoting prevention. 

    • Build communication and program management skills through regular collaboration with student members, campus staff, and DARCC’s Education Department. 

    • Model DARCC’s Mission and Values 

    • Demonstrate a commitment to DARCC’s mission, goals, and values by modeling respectful and inclusive behaviors toward all individuals. 

    • Support additional projects and initiatives as assigned. 

    Education and/or Experience: 

    • Undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field. 

    • Interest in sexual violence prevention, education, advocacy, and community engagement. 

    Technology and Computer Skills: 

    • Proficiency with computers, social media platforms, and software programs necessary for communication and project tracking.

Allies to Advocates Campus Program

    Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC) internships are unpaid. Our internships are designed to provide educational and professional development opportunities, allowing interns to gain insight into their fields of study.

    DARCC is committed to the prevention of sexual violence and compassionately serving those impacted by it. DARCC’s comprehensive program includes counseling, crisis intervention and advocacy for those whose lives have been affected by sexual violence. DARCC is also committed to social change through prevention, education and outreach programs to the community.

    The Community Engagement Intern supports the Community Engagement team to build community awareness and partnerships to ensure broad support for DARCC.

    Responsibilities for Community Engagement Intern:

    • Work alongside the CE team with projects to help grow and sustain DARCC auxiliaries (e.g. DARCC young professionals), Community events, DARCC communications and Community collaboration.

    • Educating and engaging the public about the issue of sexual assault and DARCC’s response and services.

    • Share content from community partners.

    • Participate in the organization and execution of outreach, awareness, and prevention events as needed.

    • Other opportunities as designated or suggested by the intern and approved by school and agency supervisor.

    Qualifications for Community Engagement Intern:

    • Enrolled in a college/university program with an internship requirement focusing on gaining community-level non-profit experience (i.e., social work, sociology, public relations, nonprofit management, business, etc.)

    • Comfortable with working with Microsoft Office and Canva.

    • Ability to work alongside a diverse group of employees and simultaneously work toward many company initiatives at once.
