The Dallas Area Rape Crisis Center (DARCC) is the leading resource provider to survivors of sexual assault in Dallas County and neighboring areas.
Our advocates, staff members, volunteers, and clinicians are willing and prepared to meet survivors where they are at, no matter where they are on their journey toward healing. In this way, DARCC is making a difference — the DARCC Difference — in the lives of survivors.
In our years of work, we have found that sometimes, survivors need specialized, intensive care to heal from the trauma of sexual assault.
These individuals might be experiencing homelessness or managing a substance use disorder. They might be struggling with their mental health and a history of trauma.
For these survivors, the trauma of sexual assault often compounds the daily challenges they already face, exacerbating the isolation they feel from their families and friends and social networks. These survivors are “on the edge,” so to say.
Our goal for 2025 is to be able to care for these individuals through a new intensive care counseling service.
Intensive care counseling services will be designed to address the specific needs of these survivors.
An intensive care counselor will help us ensure these survivors can access the clinical resources they need to prevent them from ending up in the hospital or experiencing a protracted crisis such as chronic homelessness.

We offer a comprehensive range of trauma-informed services, empowering survivors to heal and rebuild their lives. By collaborating with community partners and providing individualized care, we ensure that survivors have access to the support they need to overcome adversity.

At DARCC, we provide a broad range of trauma-informed care specific to each survivor’s needs.
Our clinical staff works with clients to tailor their services to ensure that they receive the correct course of treatment to properly heal.
For example, one of our clients, Lara*, kept regular, biweekly appointments with her counselor at DARCC. But as the trial neared for the perpetrator of her child’s sexual assault, Lara began to recognize in herself signs of emotional dysregulation, including displacement of anger.
She requested weekly sessions until the trial date so she could work through her anger in a healthy way, demonstrating a remarkable improvement in self-awareness and the ability to ask for what is needed in order to be her child’s best support during this time.

In addition to creating individualized care plans for each survivor, we are also a community leader and trusted resource hub for survivors in North Texas.
Because of this, we are able to leverage our partnerships with organizations throughout the community to ensure survivors can access the right care for their specific situation.
Griselda* is a young mother who was trafficked for three years. She was referred to DARCC from Refugee Services of Texas. DARCC, A21 (an anti-trafficking organization), and Refugee Services of Texas collaborated to provide complete wraparound service to Griselda and her child. As a result, there is minimal risk that she will be trafficked again. Griselda has enrolled in college and is working toward independent living.

We stand with survivors. By connecting them with our highly-trained clinical team and tailored resources, we're delivering the DARCC Difference and empowering them on their healing journey.
During a closing session, Hunter* reported having more confidence in their ability to recognize and cope with their triggers as well as to assert their needs with themselves and others. Hunter reported the most important lesson they learned in therapy was that, “It is okay to be me; a feeling is a feeling; and it is okay to give myself space to feel.” Hunter thanked their counselor for allowing them space to be themselves, without judgment.
